Violations of Human Rights in the Arab-Israeli Conflict
Since the beginning of the Arab-Israeli conflict there have been countless human rights violations committed by both sides, but the majority of violations have been carried out by Israel against the Palestinians. In looking at the conflict, one may believe that every attack has featured a human rights violation, but in order to be able to properly determine what human rights violations are, one must know the history of human rights and how they are protected. The idea of human rights started with a man named Henri Dunant, who was a merchant present during the Battle of Solferino in Italy. In viewing this battle from a distance, Henri was disturbed by the mass amounts of dead and injured soldiers that were left without treatment. Heâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The UN Human Rights Council was formed at the 2005 World Summit and has the mission of investigating human rights violations around the world. The Rights Council works in conjunction with the UN Security Council and the Intern ational Criminal Court to prevent and deal with human rights violations. This cooperation led to the acceptance of Resolution 1674 in April of 2006, which calls all parties that are engaged in armed conflict to follow The Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907 and Protocols I and II from the Geneva Conventions. In adopting this resolution the UN Security Council wanted to focus on the protection of civilians during armed conflict and they stated that, ââ¬Å"Appropriate steps would be adopted if the deliberate targeting of civilians and protected persons came to the attention of the Council.â⬠Besides these international organizations there are many NGOs, Non-governmental organizations, which include: Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the International Service for Human Rights look for and examine possible rights violations around the world. Combined these two forces, the IOs and NGOs, provide the worldââ¬â¢s policing force against human rights violations and ensure that all of humanity is treated equally.
